NCKU to Receive NT$1.6 Billion Fund From Ministry of Education’s “Five Year, 50 Billion” Project

National Cheng Kung University (NCKU), Tainan, Taiwan, will receive NT$1.6 Billion fund from Ministry of Education’s second-phase “Five Year, 50 Billion” project. This is the second time that the school will get the prestigious funding.

“We are grateful for the Ministry of Education,” said NCKU President Hwung-Hweng Hwung. “We feel the great responsibility placed upon NCKU and will speed up towards the goal to become one of the world’s top universities.”

“Ministry of Education’s ‘Five Year, 50 Billion’ project has not only upgraded NCKU’s research and hardware, it has also enhanced the University’s campus environment and globalization,” said NCKU President Hwung-Hweng Hwung.

President Hwung-Hweng Hwung assures, “In the future, NCKU will make efficient use of the fund to continue to participate in national research projects, create excellent achievements and live up to the society’s expectations. We will also promote the growth of partner schools and lead the industrial sustainable development in Southern Taiwan.”

Four research centers at NCKU, namely NCKU Research Center for Energy Technology and Strategy, Center for Frontier Materials and Micro/Nano Science and Technology, NCKU Infectious Diseases and Signaling Research Center and Advanced Optoelectronic Technology Center, are recognized by the Ministry of Education for their outstanding performance.

Established in 1931, NCKU is one of the comprehensive research universities in Taiwan, with high reputations in science, engineering, medicine, management, planning and design, chosen by the Ministry of Education, Taiwan, under the project of “Aiming to Become One of the Top Universities in Five Years with a Total Budget of Fifty Billion NT Dollars.”

According to Webometrics Ranking of World Universities announced in January 2011, NCKU for the first time ranked among the top 100 universities, grabbing the 88th spot. Many surveys throughout the years also show that its students are most desired by Taiwanese companies.
